What is lip filler?
Lip filling is the process of adding volume to the lips by injecting molecules containing cross-linked hyaluronic acid into the lips. It is administered by microbolus injections into the lips using 13 mm needles.
How is lip filling done?
The first thing to do before the procedure is photography. For correct evaluation, the need should be determined before applying local anesthetic cream. After applying local anesthetic, there is usually very minimal edema on the lips. Lips are one of the areas of our body with many sensory nerve endings. For this reason, our lips generally hurt more than other parts of our face. Pain threshold varies from person to person. Application can be made with topical creams containing lidocaine after waiting for approximately 20 minutes to half an hour. In people with low pain threshold, the effectiveness can be increased by applying topical local anesthetic cream more than once. I was performing block anesthesia 8-10 years ago. After block anesthesia, the anesthesia resolution period can be quite long and slipping and deformity of the lips may occur. Since this deformity can be misleading when filling, I no longer prefer block anesthesia. Using a fine-tipped needle and applying ice during the application greatly reduces the feeling of pain.
