Masseter botox

It is applied to treat the growth that occurs due to excessive work of the masseter muscle, which we call hypertrophy. The masseter muscle is located in the lower-back 1/3 of our face on both sides, just above the jaw line. You can feel this muscle with the 2nd and 3rd fingers of your hand when you clench your teeth. The function of the masseter muscle is mainly to perform the chewing function. The volume of the muscle is quite large and its location and size may vary from person to person.

It consists of superficial and deep parts. Although both types of Botox and Dysport drugs can be applied, Allergan’s Botox is preferred for masseter botox in our clinic.

For what purposes is masseter botox applied?

Teeth clenching and grinding (bruxism) caused by excessive use of the masseter muscle is a common problem. In people with teeth clenching problems, teeth wear out, cracking and breakage may occur. These deformations in the teeth may also cause more frequent tooth decay. In people whose masseter muscle grows too large, it can contribute to increased headaches and trigger migraine attacks along with teeth clenching.

This muscle is also one of the application points of migraine botox. Masseter botox is applied for treatment purposes in people with teeth clenching and grinding problems, and in migraine attacks due to teeth clenching. After excessive growth of the masseter muscle, the lower part of the face becomes wider. People with more muscle volume have a more angular and masculine appearance on their face. The thin and delicate shape of the face is distorted. Especially in athletes and people who lift weights, muscle prominence increases even more.

Differences in muscle volume can be observed in both genders. Although muscle volume is generally less in women, there are many individual differences. In cases where the face is desired to be thinner and more naive, or if you want to give the face a V-shaped appearance, masseter botox application will be the right choice.
